​High density (heavyweight) aggregates are used on campuses for  training courses on radiation protection as well as for collegiate test reactors.

NSS regularly works with nuclear programs from various institutes of learning around the country.

These institutes have included, among others, MIT, Princeton University, Texas A&M, Michigan State, Cornell, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and the University of Texas.
